Another US partnership takes shape 23. Jun. 2025

The Honorary Consul of Hungary to Indiana, Sidonia N. Morales, and the Washington Embassy's Specialist Diplomat for Agriculture and Food, Béla Kocsy, accompanied by Robert Evnen, were received by Rector Zoltán Szilvássy, Vice Rector for Sector Development Endre Harsányi, responsible for the development of agricultural and food science, and Okszána Kiszil, Director of Coordination and Strategy.

As Nebraska's central US economy is based on agriculture and animal husbandry, Robert Evnen is looking for opportunities for collaboration between the research-oriented University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the capital city of Lincoln, and the University of Debrecen. Founded in 1869, the University of Lincoln is at the forefront of national research universities.

At the introductory meeting, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the University of Debrecen discussed agricultural, health and food science research and related infrastructure.

Rector Zoltán Szilvássy highlighted the University of Debrecen's unique four-helix innovation structure for research harmonisation, the system of innovative clusters, and several elements of the complex research network, such as the One Health Institute and the Metagenomics Institute. Vice-Rector Endre Harsányi also identified the planned new training of animal health engineers at the Faculty of Agriculture as a possible area of cooperation.

At the end of Monday's meeting, the parties agreed to continue talks.
