Update!

From 1 July 2023, the residence permits of the new visa-bound students are sent to the university.

Students will receive the residence permit during their personal registration (or can collect it later).

Transportation from Debrecen Airport to the city

Public transport (bus Airport 1 and Airport 2) is available from Airport Debrecen to the Railway Station (Nagyállomás) and to the Main Campus area (Doberdó utca): https://www.debrecenairport.com/en/transport/public-transport

1. Academic information for freshmen 

 

The University of Debrecen will have on-campus education in 2023/24. We advise to plan your travel well in advance!

Certain parts of the registration process will happen online (eg. data update). However, according to current regulations, to establish your student status you have to complete your registration process in person. Therefore please make sure you arrive in time calculating with possible travel restrictions / complications.

Please regularly check back for updates, especially about registration details!

 

1.1. For new students of medical and health sciences programs: 

The 2023/24 academic year starts on 4 September 2023 (for Nyíregyháza-based programs the start date is 11 September).

The compulsory Hungarian Crash Course for new Medicine/Dentistry/Pharmacy students starts on 21 August 2023.

 

1.1.1 Registration for new students 2023 (medical and health programs)

Registration (online and in-person): We sent out an information email about the online/in person registration on 4 August to new students, please read the email carefully for all details.

Time of personal registration:

A) Those who participate at the Hungarian Crash Course (new Medicine/Dentistry/Pharmacy students) can register in person according to their Crash Course group number, between 22 Aug – 1 Sept. The group-schedule will be announced at the Orientation on 21st Aug. (you do not have to book an appointment)

 

B) All other Debrecen-based programs (Basic Medicine Course, Public Health BSc/MSc, Physiotherapy BSc, Molecular Biology MSc, PhD programs): between 28 Aug – 15 Sept. New students of these programs have to book an appointment for the personal registration in SAS, after they completed their online registration: log in to SAS _ choose “Appointments” _ find an event named “Personal registration” _ select a date and time for your personal registration.

You may come to register without a pre-booked appointment and take a number from the ticket machine at the corridor, however pre-booked appointments will have priority and you have to be prepared for a long waiting time if showing up without an appointment.

 

C) Nyíregyháza based programs: from 11 September onwards, in Nyíregyháza. (you do not have to book an appointment)

 

Places  of personal registration:

For all Debrecen-based programs: Education Center, Room 212 at the Coordinating Center for International Education (physical address: 94 Nagyerdei krt., Debrecen).

First school day (starting with a Hungarian Crash Course): 21 August
Personal registration period starts: from 22 August

 

Basic Medicine Course students and first year students of Public Health BSc/MSc, Physiotherapy BSc, Molecular Biology MSc, PhD students of medical and health sciences

Time and date of Orientation: 28 August, 09:00 a.m.
Place: Lecture Hall 0.14, Learning Center, Main Campus of the University (physical address: 1 Egyetem tér, Debrecen)
First school day: 4 September (only for Public Health MSc: 18 September)
Personal registration starts: from 28 August

Additional Orientation only for BMC students:
Time and date: 1 September, 09:00 a.m.
Place of BMC Orientation: Lecture Hall 2.13, Learning Center, Main Campus of the University (physical address: 1 Egyetem tér, Debrecen) 

 

First-year students of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Nyíregyháza-based programs (Nursing BSc, Social Work in Health Care MSc, Social Work and Social Economics MA)

Time and date of Orientation: 11 September, 09:00 a.m.
Place: Faculty of Health Sciences (physical address: 2-4 Sóstói út, Nyíregyháza), Building A, 3rd floor, Room 324
First school day: 11 September
Personal Registration starts: from 11 September (in Nyíregyháza)

 

Scholarship Orientation for medical programs (all newly awarded SH, SCY scholarship students, including those who were awarded in 2023 as upper-year students)

Time and date: 8 September, 13:00 p.m.
Place: Lecture Hall 0.14, Learning Center, Main Campus of the University (physical address: 1 Egyetem tér, Debrecen)

 

1.2. For new students of non-medical programs: 

The 2023/24 academic year starts on 4 September 2023. For our students of the Faculty of Law, classes start on 11 September 2023.

Registration (online and in-person): an information email was sent in the beginning of August with the necessary instructions (please check your spam folder too)

Place of personal registration:

For Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship holders: Room 208, Coordinating Center for International Education (Debrecen, Nagyerdei krt. 94.)

For our fee paying students: Room 209, Coordinating Center for International Education (Debrecen, Nagyerdei krt. 94.)

We will have an online orientation too for our new students, you will receive the details also via email

3.1.1. In case you are from a VISA bound country 

 

You may enter Hungary with a valid D-type VISA or a valid residence permit.

 

  • Once you receive your visa supporting documents from UD, please start the VISA application as soon as possible.
  • Please check your local Hungarian Embassy’s websites regularly for more information on their VISA application procedure! The Embassies will publish all recent information on their website.

 

3.1.2. In case you are from a non-VISA bound country

Your local Hungarian Embassy/Consulate/Representation will provide you with a certificate with which you will be able to enter the Schengen zone upon request.

3.2. Medical check-up procedure

 

We would like to share some important information about the medical check-up procedure and medical requirements of the University of Debrecen.

Please read them carefully, follow the steps and make sure that you bring all necessary documents with you for the registration.

 

Travelers can enter Hungary without the need for vaccination or immunity certificates, or any kind of test or quarantine obligation.

 

 

4. Accommodation


Finding the best place to live is never easy...

When studying at the University of Debrecen you can choose to rent dormitories or private flats.
