Important! 

The 2024/25 academic year starts on 9 September (first school day)

New students of the Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy programs will start with a two-week Hungarian Crash Course on 26 August.

Update!

From 1 July 2023, the residence permits of the new visa-bound students are sent to the university.

Students will receive the residence permit during their personal registration (or can collect it later).

Transportation from Debrecen Airport to the city

Public transport (bus Airport 1 and Airport 2) is available from Airport Debrecen to the Railway Station (Nagyállomás) and to the Main Campus area (Doberdó utca): https://www.debrecenairport.com/en/transport/public-transport

1. Academic information for freshmen 

 

The University of Debrecen will have on-campus education in 2024/25. We advise to plan your travel well in advance!

Certain parts of the registration process will happen online (eg. data update). However, according to current regulations, to establish your student status you have to complete your registration process in person. Therefore please make sure you arrive in time calculating with possible travel restrictions / complications.

Please regularly check back for updates, especially about registration details!

 

1.1. For new students of medical and health sciences programs: 

1.1.1 Orientations 2024/25 (medical and health programs)

New students of the Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy programs: 

Time and date of Orientation: 26 August 2024, 09:00 a.m. (also the first day of the compulsory Hungarian Crash Course)
Place: Lecture Hall, In Vitro Diagnostic Building, Medical Campus of the University (physical address: 98. Nagyerdei krt, Debrecen)
 
New students of the Basic Medicine Course, Public Health BSc and MSc, Physiotherapy BSc, Molecular Biology MSc, PhD programs: 
Time and date of Orientation: 2 September 2024, 09:00 a.m.
Place: Lecture Hall 2.13, Learning CenterMain Campus of the University (physical address: 1. Egyetem tér, Debrecen)
 
New students of Campus Nyíregyháza (Nurse BSc, Social Work in Health Care MSc, Social Work and Social Ecomony MA): 
Time and date of Orientation: 16 September 2024, 09:00 a.m.
Place: Nyíregyháza Campus of the Faculty of Health Sciences (physical address: 2-4 Sóstói út, Nyíregyháza)

 

1.1.2 New Students' Registration 2024/25 (medical and health programs)

Registration (online and in-person): we recently sent out all necessary information and dates of the Registration by email. Please check your emails, including your spam box! 

Online registration period for new students: 26 August – 13 September 2024. Please read the above mentioned email for all details.

Place of personal registration:

For Debrecen-based programs: Education Center, Room 212 at the Coordinating Center for International Education (physical address: 94 Nagyerdei krt., Debrecen).

For Nyíregyháza-based programsNyíregyháza Campus of the Faculty of Health Sciences (physical address: 2-4 Sóstói út, Nyíregyháza) 

 
 

1.2. For new students of non-medical programs: 

The classes of the first semester of the academic year 2024/2025 start on 9th September, while the registration period begins on 2nd September.

You may check the calendars of the upcoming academic year per Faculties here.

Registration (online and in-person): an information email will be sent to you in early August with all necessary instructions (please keep an eye on your spam/junk folder too)

Place of personal registration:

For Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship holders: Room 208, Coordinating Center for International Education (Debrecen, Nagyerdei krt. 94.)

For our fee paying students: Room 209, Coordinating Center for International Education (Debrecen, Nagyerdei krt. 94.)

Please kindly note that will arrange online orientations too for our freshmen, the details will be shared also via email.

3.1.1. In case you are from a VISA bound country 

 

You may enter Hungary with a valid D-type VISA or a valid residence permit.

 

  • Once you receive your visa supporting documents from UD, please start the VISA application as soon as possible.
  • Please check your local Hungarian Embassy’s websites regularly for more information on their VISA application procedure! The Embassies will publish all recent information on their website.

 

3.1.2. In case you are from a non-VISA bound country

Your local Hungarian Embassy/Consulate/Representation will provide you with a certificate with which you will be able to enter the Schengen zone upon request.

3.2. Medical check-up procedure

 

We would like to share some important information about the medical check-up procedure and medical requirements of the University of Debrecen.

Please read them carefully, follow the steps and make sure that you bring all necessary documents with you for the registration.

 

Travelers can enter Hungary without the need for vaccination or immunity certificates, or any kind of test or quarantine obligation.

 

 

4. Accommodation


Finding the best place to live is never easy...

When studying at the University of Debrecen you can choose to rent dormitories or private flats.

You can find here some information regarding the available student hostels/dormitories.

In case you prefer to rent a room in a private apartment, you can contact our partner office, Troubleshooter to ask for their help in finding you the best option!
