Short description:
Intensive Foundation Semester for Humanities (from February till May) is suggested for those students who require additional instruction or review in humanity subjects and in English language we offer foundation courses to prepare them to study in their chosen bachelor degree program, such as Communications and Media Studies, English and American Studies, Psychology. Students finishing the Intensive Foundation Semester for Humanities program should take an entrance examination to the chosen undegraduate program.
The Foundation Year program is recommended for those applicants who do not have enough knowledge and soft skills in literature, text composition, history, intercultural study or in any of these subjects according to Hungarian standards, and need further studies and a period for acclimatization before entering a humanity program. In addition to these basic subjects, courses in professional English and - optionally - Hungarian languages are also included in the program.
The preparation of international students, to enable them to successfully learn subjects at the University of Debrecen, is carried out according to the curriculum of the foundation year. During this time, several subjects will be taught to students: standard English language, academic English language, (optionally) Hungarian language for foreign students, and to prepare for the prospective studies: communication, soft skills, intercultural studies, introduction to Hungarian culture.

In the academic year 2025/2026 on the Intensive Foundation Semester the study period will be held between 9th February and 15th May 2026.
The entrance examination to undegraduate programs will held between 18th and 30th May, 2026.
